Charaka has had a design practice since its early years, even before a formal design department took shape. In the beginning, local tailors themselves shaped designs, an approach that became one of Charaka’s strengths. Senior designer Chandrashekhar from Bengaluru later guided early collections, and over time, young tailors trained on-site evolved into confident designers.
Over the years, renowned designers and artists from across the country have spent time at Charaka, developing designs in close dialogue with the production process. Artist Dwarkanath from Mysuru contributed paintings inspired by the Charaka way of life, along with block designs and batik techniques that were integrated into the product range. Today, the design studio continues to respond to contemporary fashion while staying grounded in Charaka’s working rhythms and values.
