DESI Trust
Advocacy and institutional support for handmade livelihoods
Established in 1997 in Bengaluru, Desi Trust works to strengthen rural livelihoods through handloom, craft, ecological practices, and market access. It has played a formative role in supporting Charaka by enabling marketing platforms, facilitating buyer–seller interactions, supporting skill upgradation, and channeling developmental funds and annual bonuses to artisans through the Charaka Women’s Cooperative. Through initiatives spanning enterprise development, advocacy, and sustainable production systems, Desi Trust focuses on building economically viable, community-owned institutions that support long-term artisan livelihoods and rural self-reliance.
Kavi Kavya Trust
Reviving culture through rural–urban connection Content:
Kavi-Kavya Trust is the parent organisation of the Charaka Women’s Multipurpose Industrial Cooperative Society, working for over 40 years to improve community wellbeing through arts, culture, and livelihood support. It organises cultural programmes recognising Charaka members and local talent, and has hosted Charaka Utsav for over 24 years, a major rural cultural festival featuring music, drama, and yakshagana. The Trust also supports handloom livelihoods through buyer–seller meets connecting weavers, designers, and customers, and undertook community development and livelihood support initiatives during the COVID period. Kavi-Kavya Trust is a registered charitable organisation recognised under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
Uttariya Producers Company Limited
A collective platform for rural weavers
Uttariya Producers Company Limited (UPCL) is a registered producer company with 300 members, supported by NABARD and based in Heggodu village. The company is actively involved in weaving activities and provides a structured platform for rural producers to participate collectively in the handloom economy.
Charaka Souharda Sahakara
Financial support for Charaka’s farming community
Incorporated on 29 April 2014, the Charaka Multipurpose Souharda Cooperative Bank was established to provide credit and savings facilities to farmers associated with Charaka. The cooperative currently has around 340 members and operates loan and savings schemes aimed at supporting agricultural and livelihood needs within the Charaka ecosystem.
